Why We Built Synthixx from Azad Jammu & Kashmir — Not Silicon Valley

Jawad Zaheer Kyani

I get this question a lot: why Muzaffarabad? Why not move to a bigger city with more resources, more talent, and more opportunities?

Here is my answer.

The internet changed everything

Ten years ago, building a tech company from AJK would have been nearly impossible. Today, with high-speed internet, cloud infrastructure, and remote collaboration tools, location matters less than it used to.

I can deploy a server in any region of the world from my desk in Muzaffarabad. I can collaborate with team members across Pakistan and internationally. I can reach customers anywhere.

The talent is here

People assume that talent only exists in big cities. That is not true. I have found brilliant developers, designers, and thinkers in Muzaffarabad and across AJK. What they lacked was opportunity — the chance to work on meaningful projects without relocating.

Synthixx gives them that opportunity.

The perspective matters

Building software for schools in Pakistan — from inside Pakistan — gives us a perspective that foreign companies cannot match. We understand the realities: unreliable electricity, basic Android phones, WhatsApp as the primary communication channel, PKR billing, and the specific challenges of running a school in a developing country.

This is not a limitation. It is an advantage.

Putting AJK on the map

I want Synthixx to prove that world-class software can come from anywhere. When a school in Punjab uses our system, or a developer in Nairobi uses our tools, they are using software built in Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

That matters to me. It matters to our team. And I think it matters to the region.

The challenges are real

I will not pretend it is easy. We face challenges that companies in Lahore or Karachi do not: limited local tech infrastructure, fewer networking opportunities, and the perception that serious tech companies must be based in major cities.

But we are building through those challenges, one product at a time.
